Author Review: Ballroom Blitz by Lorelei James

Ballroom Blitz by Lorelei James
Series: A Two To Tango Story
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic Romance
Length: 142 pages

Amazon Kindle   Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

She’s got the rhythm, but he’s got all the right moves.

A Two to Tango Story

After years on the road, rock drummer Jon White Feather is home from tour to reassess his music career. When his shy niece begs him to take a ballroom dancing class, Jon agrees, aware he’s not Fred Astaire material. Still, it stings when his sexy-hot instructor—who makes his heart do the cha-cha—deals his ego a low blow: he has no rhythm.

Maggie Buchanan is doing everything to make ends meet since her IT career fizzled, including teaching couples dancing at the community center. She’s prepared for anything—except her immediate attraction to the bad boy rocker who doesn’t know his right foot from his left.

As Jon sets out to prove he can rock his body—and hers—their sexual chemistry burns a path across the dance floor, straight to the bedroom. And Maggie wasn’t expecting a man with limited dance skills would know exactly how to sweep her off her feet.

Warning: Sweet and hot…this couple knows how to bump and grind.

AJ’s Review:

Lorelei James heats up the bedroom as well as the dance floor in her latest novella in the Two To Tango anthology, Ballroom Blitz. Everything about this riveting story is sexy. The characters are genuine, sexy, and full of spunk. The sex scenes and dance moves are hot, yet sensual enough to make your toes curl; and the dialogue is witty, humorous, and believable.

Jon White Feather may have two left feet on the dance floor, but he more than makes up for it in the bedroom. I would switch places with Maggie in a heartbeat. There is just something about a man that can get a woman all hot and bothered while playing the drums. :) Jon is intelligent, sexy, talented, and at a crossroads in his life. He’s tired of being on the road and is ready to settle down, but will an offer from his agent entice him to change directions when an opportunity of a lifetime presents itself? Moreover, will that opportunity cost him the woman who has managed to capture his heart and soul with one dance move?

Maggie Buchanan is an intelligent, sexy woman who has gumption. I loved her drive and motivation to succeed in the world of competitive ballroom dancing. It’s obvious that Ms. James did her homework. The lust and fears between Maggie and Jon were palpable and will quickly leave the reader enthralled and begging for more. In addition, the sex is explosive enough to keep the reader titillated until the very end.

The secondary characters were humorous, well-developed, at times sarcastic, and definitely added to the complexity of the story. I must admit that there were times I wanted to pop Billy, Maggie’s brother, upside the head. He was such an ass-hat to Jon because of his own past indiscretions.  As Colombo would say…”Don’t Do The Crime, If You Can’t Do The Time!” and that’s my motto as well.   I loved Jon’s family who were warm and inviting, which added to the depth of each character.

If you liked Jon White Feather in Wicked Garden, then you’re going to love him in Ballroom Blitz. The romance is intense, yet sweet; the characters’ insecurities and fears are palpable, the dancing is sensual both in and out of bed, and the raw uninhibited passion is explosive enough to bring a grown man to his knees. Bravo Ms. James, you’ve knocked the ball out of the park with Ballroom Blitz. I’ll definitely be recommending this exquisite gem to my friends.

Author Review: A Touch of Confidence by Jess Dee

A Touch of Confidence by Jess Dee
Series: A Two to Tango Story
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic Romance
Length: 133 pages

Amazon Kindle   Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

He kissed the girl and he liked it. Now to convince her it could be love…

A Two to Tango Story

When a coveted retail space opens up in Rose Bay, Claire Jones and her sisters waste no time grabbing the perfect spot to relocate their expanding children’s bookshop. But when Claire arrives to sign on the dotted line, she discovers someone else got there first.

Worse, the new tenant is shaking hands with a man who is definitely not the elderly Jack Wilson with whom she made a verbal agreement three days ago. This Jack Wilson is a tall, hunky giant—and no amount of righteous indignation can mask her body’s bone-deep sexual response.

Jack never planned to take over the family company; he’s a teacher, not a businessman. But with his grandfather in the hospital, he’s taken up the reins—and steered straight into trouble. Now he’s faced with a serious mistake, and a beautiful, Amazon warrior of a woman who’s demanding satisfaction.

He’d love to give it to her, but his idea of satisfaction has nothing to do with business, and everything to do with getting the curvy goddess naked. The sooner the better…

Warning: If you’ve never made love to a man who quotes Shakespeare during sex…be warned. You’re gonna want to after reading this book.

AJ’s Review:

Jess Dee is a mastermind at writing compelling stories with engaging characters who sizzle both in and out of the bedroom and her latest installment in the Two to Tango anthology, A Touch of Confidence is no different.

The sexual chemistry between Claire and Jack is off the charts. Although they’re both trying to be professional, they also know that the instant connection and raging hormones that each of them are feeling is different. Claire is statuesque, sexy, intelligent, and confident, yet insecure. While she’s confident when it comes to her business, she’s insecure when it comes to her body and love. Hurt by men who didn’t appreciate a full-figured woman with gumption, Claire is somewhat leery of Jack who is sexy as sin. But as her head is saying no, her body is saying yes. Will Claire be able to let down her defenses long enough to allow Jack to prove that he’s not like any man she’s every encountered, but more importantly, he wants her heart, body and soul forever?

Jack is sexy, intelligent, geeky and way over his head when it comes to running his grandfather’s business. In fact, his first business transaction is a disaster and now he has to make amends to the beautiful Claire. But that’s not all he wants to do, and if Jack has his way, Claire will be in his bed and life forever before she even knows what’s happening. In addition to his dilemma with Claire, Jack has problems of his own. He’s torn between his passion – teaching – and stepping up to the plate to help his grandfather by taking over his business. Will Jack be able to work through his obstacles to not only find the love of his life, but also to continue doing what he truly loves as a profession? Guess you’ll have to read the book to find out.

The secondary characters were absolutely amazing and increased the depth, complexity and humor of the story. I loved Jack’s grandfather who was a kind, caring man. It’s obvious that there was so much love between he and his grandson that it will make the reader’s heart swell with joy. The dynamics between the Jones’ sisters is humorous, but genuine. You can’t help but like these ladies and hope for them to find their Happily Ever After. In fact, I’m hoping that Ms. Dee has stories in mind for Claire’s sisters. Hint! Hint! :)

The plot is complex and well-developed. In addition, the dialouge is realistic with a touch of sarcasm and humor that will keep a smile on your face throughout the book. Moreover, the sex sizzles with unbridled passion that’s hot enough to melt your e-reader. I simply couldn’t get enough of Jess Dee’s charismatic characters and ended up reading this delightful, entertaining book in one sitting.

If you’re looking for a quick read that’s full of witty banter, smoking hot sex, and unconditional love, then A Touch of Confidence is definitely the book to read. Jess Dee handles each character’s insecurities and fears with finesse and genuineness. Bravo Ms. Dee, you’ve hit a home run with A Touch of Confidence and I’ll definitely be recommending this wonderful book to my friends.

Author Review: Reilly’s Wildcard by Anne Rainey

Reilly’s Wildcard by Anne Rainey
Series: Blackwater, Book Four
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic Romance
Length: 130 pages

Amazon Kindle   Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

The most potent lover she’s ever had…and the morning sickness to prove it!

Blackwater, Book 4

Lucy Rice knew that a night of uninhibited passion with sex-on-a-stick Reilly Jennings would leave a lasting impression on her body. But never in a million years did she expect to see a plus sign appear on that little white stick.

Pregnant? She can’t believe her eyes. When a second test confirms it, Lucy admits the truth. She’s about to be a one-night-stand mommy. How’s that for luck?

Reilly never wanted the responsibility of fatherhood, much less tie himself to an infuriating, headstrong woman like Lucy. Still, his sense of honor won’t let him abandon his baby like his biological parents abandoned him. Yet it isn’t long before he’s captivated by the coming baby—and the mother carrying it.

Lucy is rocked with all sorts of conflicting feelings for the father of her child. Unfortunately, she’s been down that road before, and it left her a blubbering mess. Not again. No way, no how. Except Reilly seems hell-bent on keeping her close. Maybe it’s the hormones, but Lucy’s beginning to forget why that’s a bad idea…

Product Warnings

This title contains a tender and romantic man bent on proving he can be more than a good time, and a woman in serious need of the love of an honorable man.

AJ’s Review:

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Just when I think Anne Rainey’s Blackwater series couldn’t get any better, she proves me wrong by penning another riveting installment that had me enthralled from page one. Reilly’s Wildcard is sexy, sensual and full of raw, uninhibited passion that would make any girl’s body tingle and toes curl.

After reading Reilly’s Wildcard, I want a Reilly of my own. Ms Rainey has developed a sexy alpha with a soft, caring side and an insatiable appetite for the woman who has stolen his heart and soul. Every single page was simply delicious as Reilly and Lucy embraced their future and relinquished their fears in order to love one another deeply and unconditionally.

Lucy is sexy, fierce when it comes to protecting the people she loves, and vulnerable as a result of her ex-husband who was a lying, cheating ass-hat, and her daddy who’s a mean drunk. My heart simply broke for both Lucy and Reilly, but I was also proud of them and for them considering everything they had managed to overcome. Their blossoming relationship is full of drama, angst, and hot make-up sex. What more could a girl ask for?

The secondary characters continue to help bring this story and series to life with their witty, intense, and at times humorous banter. You can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed by the Jennings family, but you also feel loved. It obvious that this dynamic family deeply cares for one another and will do anything to see the members in their family happy. The characters were well-developed and three dimensional as Ms. Rainey takes us on the ride of a lifetime with Reilly and Lucy’s world-wind romance.

Reilly’s Wildcard is the perfect mix of warm, caring, everlasting love and unbridled passion that would make any woman swoon. The sex scenes are delicious, the drama and fears of our hero and heroine are palpable and realistic, and the drama simply leaps off the page; thereby, quickly drawing the reader into the magnificent world of Anne Rainey’s Blackwater series. Shoot, it was so good that I read it in one sitting. :) I simply couldn’t get enough and am dying to know what happens next between River and Jeanette. :) If you haven’t picked up a copy of Reilly’s Wildcard then what are you waiting on because Ms. Rainey’s latest installment in the Blackwater series is guaranteed to knock your socks off and maybe even allow your significant other to get lucky after you’ve finished reading the book. :) Just saying!

Fried Pickles and the Fuzz by Calico Daniels
Series: Redneck Fabulous Series, Book One
Publisher: Astraea Press
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Comedy
Length: 71 pages

Amazon Kindle   Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

Big Creek might be a stereotypical small town but even they have drama.

Heather loves her little café, and her best customer is the county Sherriff. She’s been waiting months for him to ask her out…maybe she won’t have to wait much longer.

Bronson feels at home in Big Creek even though he hasn’t been the Sherriff for long. Small towns have their perks and a pretty café owner who cooks like an angel certainly doesn’t hurt. Now, if he could only get over his nerves and drum up the gumption to ask her out.

Throw in a gossip mill, a redneck festival and an ill timed attempt to help and you end up with some laughs, some ruffled feathers and a town that is….Redneck Fabulous.

Deb’s Review :

Land sakes, I have never laughed so hard as I did reading, Fried Pickle’s and the Fuzz by Calico Daniels. This light-hearted, contemporary romance grabs at your heartstrings while tickling your funny bone.

Sheriff Bronson is shamelessly head over heels in love with the owner of the Fried Pickle Diner. Now, all he has to do is convince her that he’s worthy of a chance. Bronson is as sweet as they come. Not only did he make my knees week, but his stumbling also enhanced his charm.

Heather is a true delight! I enjoyed her down to earth vibe. Heather finds herself in a predicament that just might ruin what she hoped to be her happily ever after. Can she get over this stumbling block, or will she let the best thing she’s ever had walk out of her life for good?

Bronson and Heather have their work cut out for them with the town folk. Big Creek is like any other small town where everyone knows your business. However, the town folk sure add to the richness of the main plot line. Ms. Daniels will we see more books from this little town? I have to admit I wanted to know who’s truck Heather borrowed. :)

If you want a sweet, fun, crazy short read then pick-up Fried Pickles and the Fuzz by Calico Daniels. It was a true delight to read!

Author Review: Talk of the Town: Ella by Carolyn Butler

Talk of the Town: Ella by Carolyn Butler
Publisher: Astraea Press
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 80 pages

Amazon Kindle   Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

The first time Ella Turner told Sid she was going to marry him she was four years old. She told him again when she was thirteen. When he came back to Cedar Dell after eleven years in the Army, his indifference hurt.

Sid Bennett thought Ella was cute at four. At seven he thought her annoying. Once a woman, she scared him, she pressed his buttons and put him in his place. But deep down he knew Ella was the one, what he hadn’t expected was that she had waited for him.

Lace’s Review:

Talk of the Town: Ella is a short, sweet read that has the beginnings of a wonderful contemporary romance, but I have to admit that I struggled with reading this book. I felt that it moved too fast, which prevented me from grasping the growth of the hero and heroine. It is sweet that Ella’s dream came true involving Sid , but I found that their story lacked something.  Maybe if there had been more background information about Ella and Sid, it would have made their characterization feel more developed.

There were not any secondary characters that stood out, or helped to build the main characters structure. The plot was a little too all over the place for my liking. I found myself trying to see where Ms. Butler was taking me on this journey, but struggled at every turn. So in short even though Talk of the Town: Ella did not hit high on my ratings chart, it was fun discovering a new author.

AJ’s Review:

Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold series is one of my favorites and Halfway There did not disappoint. Ms. Mallery has penned a short, entertaining read with engaging, likable characters who will steal your heart and put a smile on your face.

I loved the easy camaraderie between Fayrene and Ryan as they quickly got to know one another. This charismatic couple covered everything from birthing cats, to cheating ex-girlfriends, to their life’s plan and while some of their plan’s didn’t quite mesh, Ms. Mallery once again proves if you’re willing to listen and deeply care about one another anything is possible, even when plans slightly change. Fayrene is a smart, talented, strong, independent woman who’s living her dream by running her own business. Although it wasn’t in her plans to fall head-over-heels in love with Ryan, the heart wants what the heart wants. :)

Ryan is one sexy geek who is charming and could grab any woman’s attention, but he only has eyes for Fayrene. Although his initial plans involved a temporary stay in Fool’s Golds, things quickly changed for him after meeting Fayrene and being offered the job of a lifetime. I loved how Ryan truly listened to Fayrene and vice versa. In fact, it’s part of what made their relationship so special.

The secondary characters were pivotal in allowing the story to progress. I always enjoy not only catching up with the previous characters in Fool’s Gold books, but I also enjoy meeting new ones. Fayrene’s sisters, Dellina and Ana Raquel, were a hoot. I enjoyed their witty banter and it was obvious that these three had been through a lot and that their love and support of one another ran deep. The dialogue remains fresh as with each Fool’s Gold novel and the sexual tension between Fayrene and Ryan sizzled.

If you’re looking for a entertaining quick read with charismatic characters who will warm your heart, put a smile on your face, and make you believe in love at first sight and Happily Ever Afters, then Susan Mallery’s Halfway There is definitely the book to read. What a wonderful addition to the Fool’s Gold series. I sure hope Ms. Mallery has stories in mind for Dellina and Ana Raquel. :)

Author Review: Crystal Cove by Lisa Kleypas

Crystal Cove by Lisa Kleypas
Series: Friday Harbor, Book 4
Publisher: St. Martin’s Griffin
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic Romance, Light BDSM, Fantasy, Paranormal
Length: 336 pages

Amazon Kindle   Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

ONE WOMAN WHO HAS BEEN CURSED NEVER TO FIND LOVE . . .

ONE MAN WITHOUT A SOUL WHO WANTS HER MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF . . .

THEY MEET IN A SMALL ISLAND TOWN IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST, WHERE MAGIC IS IN THE AIR AND FATE IS A FORCE TOO POWERFUL TO DEFY. . . .

In New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas’s Crystal Cove, Justine Hoffman has made a comfortable life for herself on the island of Friday Harbor. She is the proprietor of a successful boutique hotel, and she has the safe, predictable life she has always wanted. Growing up with her flighty, nomadic mother, Marigold, has instilled in her a deep longing for stability. But in spite of everything Justine has achieved, there is still something missing. Love. And after years of waiting and dreaming, she is willing to do whatever it takes to change her destiny.

What Justine soon discovers is that someone cast a spell on her when she was born, with the result that she will never find her soul mate. Determined to change her fate, Justine finds a way to break the enchantment, never dreaming of the dangerous complications that will follow.

And when Justine meets the mysterious Jason Black, she accidentally unleashes a storm of desire and danger that threaten everything she holds dear . . . because Jason has secrets of his own, and he wants more from her than fate will ever allow.

AJ’s Review:

Each heroine in the Friday Harbor series has had their own touch of magic, but Justine is different because she’s an actual witch with more than just a little magic. While some readers have been disappointed with the amount of sex and paranormal elements in Crystal Cove, I must disagree with them. Justine being a witch is a big part of who she is and that shouldn’t be scraped under the rug and thank goodness that Ms. Kleypas agreed.

Justine is a strong, intelligent, sassy woman who likes to be in control, likes sex, and secretly wants to be madly, desperately in love with someone. However, when she discovers that someone has cursed her, the life that she’s known and lived suddenly begins to make more sense in regards to her casual relationships that were based more on sex and friendship than unbridled passion that makes your toes curl. Add to this revelation the fact that Justine is a natural born witch, quickly falls head-over-heels in love with a stranger who has secrets of his own and Ms. Kleypas has crafted one intriguing plot that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat until the last page is read.

Jason is sexy, domineering, caring, and stubborn to no end. While the sexual chemistry between Jason and Justine sizzles throughout the story, it’s their blossoming friendship and genuine caring for one another that keeps the reader engaged. I loved how he allowed her to explore pieces of her sexuality that were even foreign to Justine without judgement. I must admit that there was a point in the book when I felt as though Justine forgave Jason a little to quickly given his transgressions, but hey, love is love.

The secondary characters, Zoe, the witches of Crystal Cove, and Justine’s mother added depth to the plot while allowing the story to progress. I must admit that I wanted to strangle Justine’s mom for being selfish, unforgiving, single-minded and uncaring. She couldn’t grasp the concept that Justine’s choices were just that – her choices to make, her errors or successes in judgement to make and learn from. In fact, Justine’s mom simply left a bad taste in my mouth and I couldn’t wait for her to eventually get what she truly deserves. Zoe as always was a source of optimism and unconditional love for Justine that simply warms your heart. While these two may be cousins, they were more like sisters and in my humble opinion, fantastic women who had fought the odds and survived the craziness and selfishness of uncaring parents who only thought about themselves. The quick wit and crisp dialogue also will also the reader engrossed in the plot, while the sex was hot enough to make a grown man weak in the knees.

If you’re looking for a magical story that focuses on the power of hope, unbridled passion, and everlasting love no matter the cost, then Crystal Cove by Lisa Kleypas is definitely the book to read. The characters are intense, passionate, flawed, yet lovable, the witty banter is at times humorous and at other times sarcastic, but in a good way, and the love is genuine, pure, and so soulful that it’ll take your breath away. Therefore, pickup your copy today and enjoy the fourth installment of the Friday Harbor series, Crystal Cove and embrace the magic and love.

AJ’s Review:

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Once again Ms. Kitt has penned a compelling story that pulls at your heartstrings as the characters we have grown to love in the Under Mr. Nolan’s Bed series unveil a myriad of lies and secrets that could destroy them or set them free once and for all. Grace was the perfect finale to this long awaited trilogy and I for one am in awe of Ms. Kitt’s writing skills because with each installment not only does she bring each character to life, but the reader also becomes so fully immersed in their trials and tribulations that you can’t help but feel all of the raw emotions running through each character.

Leah, Eric and Mr. Nolan are definitely some of my favorite characters. Their unconditional love for one another during times of upheaval that ranged from sexual deviance to segregation to the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church kept me enthralled in this riveting read until the very end. In fact, I read it in one sitting because I simply couldn’t get enough. I had to know if Leah and Rob (a.k.a. Mr. Nolan) would ever find Grace and be able to start their Happily Ever After. While the sexual chemistry is still like a blazing inferno between Leah and Mr. Nolan, it’s their love for one another through the difficult times that shines through and warms the reader’s heart. There was nothing that Mr. Nolan wouldn’t do to make sure that Leah and Erica were both happy, which was very admirable. Moreover, I’ve always found Mr. Nolan sexy and these wonderful characteristics only made him more appealing to me.

Erica is a force to be reckoned with in that she’s stronger than she gives herself credit for. This young woman has experienced a lot of the darker side of life at such a young age, but with each installment she thrives and eventually finds her way in Grace, which made me happy to no end because like Leah, Erica deserved a Happily Ever After.

While Patty, Leah’s mom, is still not one of my favorite characters, after reading Grace, I have a better understanding of everything she has experienced in life. In fact, there was a point in the book that she redeemed herself somewhat in my eyes, which is a testament to Selena Kitt’s imagination and writing skills. While I can’t forget what she did to Leah, I can forgive to an extent. :) As for the villains in this mesmerizing story, I couldn’t wait to see them get exactly what they deserved, especially Father Patrick and the Ghoul. But be forewarned, Grace is not for the faint at heart to an extent. Some of the secrets and lies that are unveiled will make your head spin as Ms. Kitt incorporates a few twists and turns in the plot that will make you say WTH????? My only niggle with the book was that there were a few minor editing problems, but nothing that would deter you from the story by any means.

If you’re looking for a fabulous story with vulnerable, lovable, yet flawed characters who will warm your heart and soul to the core, a compelling plot with enough twist and turns to leave your mouth hanging open in shock, unbridled passion that will make the strongest of men and women swoon, and endearing, unconditional love that will put a smile on your face and a tear in your eye, then Grace by Selena Kitt is definitely the book to read. In fact, pickup the entire Under Mr. Nolan’s Bed series today for a heart-stopping, chest pounding read that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Bravo Selena Kitt as you’ve hit a home run not only with Grace, but also the entire Under Mr. Nolan’s Bed series and I’ll definitely be recommending it to my friends. :)

Author Review: Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas

Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas
Series: Friday Harbor, Book 3
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Spicy
Length: 385 pages

Amazon Kindle Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

They say that opposites attract. But what happens when one of them has been devastated by betrayal and the other is so damaged and jaded that his heart is made of stone? In New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas’s Dream Lake, readers well enter the world of Friday Harbor, an enchanting town in the Pacific Northwest where things are not quite as they seem and where true love might just have a ghost of a chance. . . .

Alex Nolan is about as bitter and cynical as they come. One of three Nolan brothers who call Friday Harbor home, he’s nothing like Sam or Mark. They actually believe in love; they think the risk of pain is worth the chance of happiness. But Alex battles his demons with the help of a whiskey bottle, and he lives in his own private hell. And then, a ghost shows up. Only Alex can see him. Has Alex finally crossed over the threshold to insanity?

Zoë Hoffman is as gentle and romantic as they come. When she meets the startlingly gorgeous Alex Nolan, all her instincts tell her to run. Even Alex tells her to run. But something in him calls to Zoë, and she forces him to take a look at his life with a clear eye and to open his mind to the possibility that love isn’t for the foolish.

The ghost has been existing in the half-light of this world for decades. He doesn’t know who he is, or why he is stuck in the Nolans’ Victorian house. All he knows is that he loved a girl once. And Alex and Zoë hold the key to unlocking a mystery that keeps him trapped here.

Zoë and Alex are oil and water, fire and ice, sunshine and shadow. But sometimes it takes only a glimmer of light to chase away the dark, and sometimes love can reach beyond time, space, and reason to take hold of hearts that yearn for it. . . .

AJ’s Review:

From the moment Alex Nolan was introduced in Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor, I knew that his story was going to rock my world. Ms. Kleypas addresses the difficult issues of substance abuse, long-lost loves, nasty divorces, unwanted children, loss, forgiveness, redemption, and death with finesse and class. Dream Lake took this reader through a myriad of emotions that ranged from sadness, to anger, to hope, and ultimately to love. With the help of an unusual ghost and a little magic, Dream Lake entices the reader with its complex plot, beautiful scenery, realistic dialogue, charismatic characters, and poignant messages about life and unconditional love. I simply couldn’t get enough of this riveting story that I finished reading in one sitting.

Zoe is kind-hearted, smart, sexy, an optimist and romantic at heart, as well as a whiz in the kitchen. Everything she cooked was a masterpiece and made my mouth water. But it was her non-judgemental attitude toward Alex that made this character come to life for me. The old trope – opposites attract – has never been truer when it comes to Zoe and Alex, but that’s what makes their story so magical. I loved how they struggled at times to communicate with one another, yet at other times, it was as though they were two halves of a whole who completed one another.

Alex is intelligent, hardworking, brooding, and sexy, but most of all he’s vulnerable and on the edge of losing himself forever to the machinations of alcohol. No one has every loved him unconditionally, which is the reason he made a point early on in life not to get attached to people. That is until he meets Zoe, who manages to turn his world upside down. Well, Zoe and Tom, his friendly neighborhood ghost. :) Lisa Kleypas’ ability to incorporate the past with present in such an imaginative and creative way is a testament to her writing skills. Not only did Tom increase the depth of the story, but he also strengthened Alex’s character as he relived the past and tried to learn from his mistakes.

The secondary characters, Emma and Justine, increased the richness of Dream Lake. My heart went out to Zoe and Emma as the rolls reversed and Zoe became the caregiver. Being a caregiver myself, I know how that affects a person both emotionally and physically. It was obvious that Ms. Kleypas had done her homework in regards to dementia and the options that were available to families who were experiencing such a dramatic change in their lives. Not only was the storyline believable, but it also increased the genuineness of the characters. The setting remains picturesque as Ms. Kleypas continues to introduce the reader to the quaint town of Friday Harbor. Once again, the interaction between the Nolan brothers, specifically Alex and Sam, was full of witty banter and at times underlining meanings that eventually reveal themselves and gives the reader an ah-ha moment.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable, emotionally charged story that encompasses genuine, yet flawed characters, rich dialogue, poignant messages regarding life and love, and a tantalizing plot that incorporates a touch of magic to warm your heart and heal your soul while putting a smile on your face, then Dream Lake by Lisa Kleypas is definitely the book to read. I’ve enjoyed every book in the Friday Harbor series and can’t wait to see what Ms. Kleypas has in store for Justine. :)

Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas
Series: Friday Harbor, Book 2
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 336 pages

Amazon Kindle Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

Lucy Marinn is a glass artist living in mystical, beautiful, Friday Harbor, Washington. She is stunned and blindsided by the most bitter kind of betrayal: her fiancé Kevin has left her. His new lover is Lucy’s own sister. Lucy’s bitterness over being dumped is multiplied by the fact that she has constantly made the wrong choices in her romantic life.

Facing the severe disapproval of Lucy’s parents, Kevin asks his friend Sam Nolan, a local vineyard owner on San Juan Island, to “romance” Lucy and hopefully loosen her up and get her over her anger. Complications ensue when Sam and Lucy begin to fall in love, Kevin has second thoughts, and Lucy discovers that the new relationship in her life began under false pretenses. Questions about love, loyalty, old patterns, mistakes, and new beginnings are explored as Lucy learns that some things in life—even after being broken—can be made into something new and beautiful.

AJ’s Review:

With the release of each new installment, Lisa Kleypas draws the reader deeper and deeper into the quaint community of Friday Harbor and the lives of the Nolan family. Rainshadow Road is compelling, intense, emotional, humorous, sensual, and endearing. I enjoyed watching the love blossom between Lucy and Sam as they learned more about one another as well as themselves.

Lucy is intelligent, strong, loyal, kind, talented, and magical. She’s a heroine who you will quickly love. My heart broke for Lucy as she was betrayed by someone who should have cared for her, but I loved how she took the bull by the horns and moved on with her life. Her talent and magic with glass was absolutely amazing and the vivid descriptions that Ms. Kleypas provided made it easier to visualize each of Lucy’s creations. The instant chemistry between Lucy and Sam was electrifying and undeniable as this dynamic duo transitioned from strangers to friends to lovers. But will this charismatic couple be able to let each other go when the time comes? Or, will they realize that their love for one another is deeper than either could have imagined and it will be impossible to live without one another?

Sam is sexy, intelligent, geeky, funny, caring, loyal, lovable, yet vulnerable. His parents alcoholism and abuse habr left with a fear of commitment when it comes to relationships with women. While it’s obvious that he’s capable of loving simply from his relationship with his brothers and Holly, intimacy in a relationship with a woman is out of the quesiton for this devoted bachelor. That is until he meets Lucy, who literally turns his world upside down and has him wanting things he never imagined possible. The possessiveness that Sam instantly feels for Lucy is sexy, protective and caring. I love how he supported Lucy, especially when it came to dealing with her sister, Alice. Moreover, the sexual tension between these two was explosive. What I enjoyed the most was the fact that he wasn’t afraid of her magic, which allowed him to love her unconditionally…the one thing Lucy had never experienced in life.

The secondary characters are a big part of what makes the story so complex and compelling. I wanted to pummel Alice and Kevin. Both of them were selfish, lying, cheating, self-righteous asshats. In all honesty, I couldn’t stand either one of them and couldn’t wait for them to get exactly what they deserved. While Lucy’s parents eventually came to their senses, I wanted to scream at them as well. Their unfair treatment of Lucy made me want to pull my hair out. Whatever happened to loving your children unconditionally? They continued to allow Alice to getaway with being a total selfish biach, which made me want to shake some sense into them. The only redeeming quality was how they handled Alice’s betrayal of Lucy. In addition, the truth regarding her parents marriage shedded more light on the situation in regards to their actions, even though they were still unjustifiable in my book. I loved that Justine and Zoe were there for Lucy when she really needed friends. I loved Zoe’s kindness and Justine’s spunk and can’t wait for their stories. The quaint town of Friday Harbor continues to fascinate me as we meet more and more of the residents.

Lisa Kleypas has penned a riveting story with engaging, well-developed characters who are magical and easy to love. The dialogue remains fresh and believable as the words flow smoothly over each page. The plot is also well-developed and increases the complexity and depth of the overall story. I simply couldn’t get enough of these amazing characters who quickly found a place in my heart and can’t wait for the next book in the series. If you haven’t picked up a copy of Rainshadow Road, then you’re definitely missing out. Ms. Kleypas has crafted a compelling story with several poignant messages that could easily be transferred to any real life situation while putting a smile on your face and warming your heart to the core as the love between Lucy and Sam blossoms.

…TO MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE

Three lonely people. Three lives at the crossroads. Three people who are about to discover that Christmas is the time of year when anything is possible, and when wishes have a way of finding the path home…

AJ’s Review:

Lisa Kleypas has crafted a compelling, heartwarming story about loss, love, and second chances. Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor is a sweet, romantic holiday story that will definitely put you in the spirit of Christmas. The characters are vulnerable, charming, and all around lovable. You cant’ help but root for Mark, Maggie and Holly to find their Happily Ever After.

Although Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor is a short read, Ms. Kleypas quickly draws the reader into the lives of the Nolans. I loved how the author provided insight into each character to give the reader a better feel of the complexity of the situation. Mark Nolan loves women, but he has no desire to be in love. While he wants to do what’s best for his niece Holly, his past continues to hinder the present, as well as his future. In Mark’s mind, if love and marriage revolves around what his alcoholic, abusive parents presented, then count him out.

Maggie has loved, lost, and is unwilling to go through such excruciating pain again. She’s content with her life even though if truth be told, she feels alone in the world. That is until she meets Mark Nolan, who recharges her battery like no other man. I loved how fate and Holly kept bring the couple together in order for their relationship to blossom. The situation regarding Thanksgiving had me laughing until I cried because it was so hilarious. But when push comes to shove and Mark realizes that he’s in love with Maggie, will he be able to convince her to take a second chance on him and Holly?

The secondary characters not only increased the depth and complexity of the story, but the Nolan brothers also provided more insight about Mark as well as themselves. My heart broke for all of them as they struggled to deal with alcoholic, abusive parents who didn’t want to be helped. It was interesting to see how differently each child was affected. Yet, the one thing they all had in common was the fear of commitment. I loved the witty banter and ribbing that occurred between the brothers. In addition, the dialogue was genuine, realistic and had me wanting to know more about Sam and Alex. I simply can’t wait for their stories, especially Alex’s. The quaint community itself also acted as character who invited the reader not only into the lives of Mark, Maggie and Holly, but also the town of Friday Harbor.

Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor is a feel-good story that will not only put the reader in the Christmas spirit, but will also warm their heart and put a smile on their face as three individuals learn to become a family. The characters are charming, the town is quaint, the dialogue is fresh and believable, the plot is well-developed, and the love is endearing. I loved watching Mark transition from a bachelor to father. His kind, caring attitude is what will make the reader fall in love with him, just like Holly and Maggie. :) Bravo Ms. Kleypas for penning a story that’s full of heart, soul, and the Magic of Christmas.

You can still purchase these titles individually.**

Lace’s Review:

Bondage on the 4th of July was a sexy, hot read that I just could not get enough of. Kenny and Brad are two Dom’s that had me thinking “Double the pleasure, double the fun.” LOL! I am betting those two can be a handful. Millie is one lucky gal. *grins* However, she has some making up to do.

Halloween Submission is a stunning, hot, very emotional story. So, no matter what other story you read in this Anthology, be sure to read this one. I am half in love with Tom myself. His dominance just draws you to him. Lucy is a delightful heroine, but I have to admit that I would have liked her better if she had some sass. Half in love with each other from the start, Tom and Lucy give their story a special after glow.

A Slave for Christmas was a heart stopping read. Kenny from the first story gets his own story, which made it even more intriguing. Trust me when I say that he sets the pages on fire. Lindsey is a pleasant surprise in that she gives herself wholly to the submissive roll. Even though you get a feeling that she likes to top from the top, that is so not the case.

Even though the stories in Bound are nothing short from fantastic, they all have the potential to become longer, stronger stories on their own.

With the authorities looking to make an example of Angelo, Gabe has to decide if it’s really worth it to hate the sin but love the sinner.

Reader Advisory: This book contains brief scenes of gang-related violence.

A Romantica® erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

AJ’s Review:

Love the Sinner, Avril Ashton’s first book in the Brooklyn Sinners series, is fast-paced, action packed, sexy, emotional, and full of raw, uninhibited sex. If the bullets don’t get you, then the smoking hot love scenes will.

Detective Gabriel Ashby is in a rut, especially in his personal life. However, when he meets Angelo Pagan, the leader of Los Pescadores, sparks fly as the two men go head to head to solve Angelo’s sister’s murder. While the witty, sensual banter that’s volleyed back and forth between Gabriel and Angelo is intriguing, it’s the undying need, professional suicide, and denial that makes this couples’ love for one another so explosive.

Angelo Pagan is highly intelligent, ruthless, dangerous, and deadly when it comes to protecting the people that he loves. Not only is he seeking revenge for his sister and father’s murder, but also for the attempted murder of Gabe, the man his heart and body desires. I always enjoy the forbidden love/bad boy trope and Ms. Ashton takes it to a whole new level with her riveting characters that make you want to root for the bad guy. But in spite of their undying love for one another, it’s forbidden and risky. Will Gabe and Angelo find a way to destroy their enemy in order to pursue their Happily Ever After?

The secondary characters in Love the Sinner are well-developed and give this story a full-bodied feeling similar to the finest of wines. The suspense and mind games that occur throughout the book are realistic and play out like an SVU episode. It’s obvious that Ms. Ashton did her homework in regards to the culture of gangs, as the dialogue was rich, buoyant, and believable. The characters are three-dimensional and flawed, yet lovable. You can’t help but instantly like Angelo who is supposedly the bad guy. As the story unfolds and the reader learns more about out two heroes, it’s obvious that they are desperately in love. I immediately fell in love with Angelo’s mother who not only understood and loved her son unconditionally, but was someone with whom he could confide in. They had a special relationship that made my heart swell with joy. In addition, the push and pull play between Gabe and his brother gave me a few “aw” moments as these two gruff men bared their feelings and showed how much they cared for one another. However, I must admit that Ms. Ashton has left me with more questions than answers in regards to the series. For example, what’s going to happen with Pablo? Moreover, how will Mr. S’s endgame play out in the grand scheme of things and when will his story be ready?

Avril Ashton has penned a compelling story with heart and soul that will keep you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails until the very end. The plot is well-crafted and immediately draws the reader into the crux of the story. The love between Gabe and Angelo is intense, emotional, raw, genuine, and at times, simply beautiful. The danger is palpable as our heroes try to determine who is friend and who is foe. And last, but not by any means least, the sex is explosive and will melt your e-reader to smitherines. I couldn’t get enough of this tantlizing story and ended up reading it in one sitting. Therefore, if you haven’t checked out Love the Sinner by Avril Ashton, then you are definitely missing out because this fantastic writer will take you on the emotional roller coaster ride of a life time and then some with her magnificient characters, riveting plot, and no-holds barred love scenes.

[#283 Siren Everlasting Classic: Erotic Contemporary Cowboy Romance. This is an M/F romance; the main love story is between Rachel and Eli. This book also includes a second love story with several "follow-up" M/F/M menage scenes involving the heroine and the heroes from Divine Grace, who now play secondary characters.]

Eli Wolf provides security at The Dancing Pony Nightclub in Divine, Texas. He’d like to provide security and a whole lot more for the beautiful and voluptuous Rachel Lopez. Rachel is attracted to this cross between a huge Viking and Indian warrior brave, but knows her jealous nature will keep them from being happy together. Can she compete with the women who flock to him like moths to a flame at the nightclub?

When her apartment burns down, Eli is determined to make her a permanent houseguest. Can she deny the attraction she feels when he’s always made it abundantly clear she’s the only woman he wants? Tragedy strikes, and Eli and Rachel are forced to relive painful memories from their pasts. NOTE: You are purchasing Part 1: No Regrets of Her Gentle Giant. This purchase does not include Part 2: Remember to Dance.

Part 2 is the conclusion of Her Gentle Giant and will be available for purchase on Thursday, December 23rd.

Lace’s Review:

Her Gentle Giant, part # 1 is one of my top 10 favorite romances. Thank you Ms. Rainier for giving us Eli and Rachel. The chemistry between Eli and Rachel is off the charts. They struggled to achieve what both their hearts wanted.

Rachel Lopez is a strong, independent woman, who is head over heels infatuated with Dancing Pony’s new bouncer Eli Wolf. Her own self-doubts put this budding romance in jeopardy.

Eli Wolf a huge hottie with a heart of gold. He comes to Divine through a job opportunity as a bouncer and some added muscle. He is new to Divine, but one thing he has noticed is that Divine is not short on breath taking women. There is one woman that caught his interest and that’s Rachel.

We meet Eli and Rachel in book #1, Divine Grace, so Her Gentle Giant is part one of their story. Ms. Rainier left us with a wonderful lead-in to part #2. I cannot wait to see what’s in-store is for these two and the town of Divine.

Ms. Rainier has once again given us a story that will have our hearts soring!! Heather Rainer is anything but predictable. The most challenging thing for me reading her books is putting them down once I get started.

Grace learns what it means to be desired, pursued, and protected by three gorgeous men, finding that they will do anything to please her along the way.

Can they prove to Grace they want forever and not just a fling? Can Grace heed the advice of her sister and seize the day?

Note: This is an epic-length novel at 200,000 words.

Lace’s Review:

Heather Rainier’s Divine Grace is a heart stopping menage that has so much more going for it then the hot monkey sex scenes.

Meet Jack, a contractor by trade and a cowboy by heart. He is one sweet love that had my heart melting. His bedside manner is awesome and his kisses are hot.

Meet Ethan, the owner of the Dancing Pony/Dominate. It totally blew me away that even though his character is labeled a “Dom”, we did not get to see that part of this character much, it was mostly is words.

Meet Adam, a contractor and cowboy with the tendency to be a big ole teddy bear. Bigger than Jack or Ethan, this gentle giant grabbed my attention more than the others. His gentleness, along with his true nature is a good buffer between all of them.

Meet the princess of the ball Grace, who is one amazing heroine, and boy does this lady know how to clean house. LOL! I adore her shyness and her ability to accept what she wanted from her men.

Ms. Rainier, I will admit that there is a downer part to this amazing book for me and that’s because I felt there needed to be more “Jack & Grace” moments. He is so giving. The big question is will this quartet be accepted, or will they be shunned by their own town people? Come and visit Divine Grace to find out.

The secondary characters only added sparkle to this already sinfully delicious read. Lord, I was scrambling to keep up with all the things going on. Add an amazing plot line, include hot sex, stellar characters, biaches with guns and an ex who has no clue at all and you have the makings of one amazing read in Divine Grace. Ms. Rainier Rocked!

Author Review: Sister of the Bride by Susan Mallery

Sister of the Bride by Susan Mallery
Series: Fools Gold
Publisher: Harlequin (HQN) Books
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: Short Read

Amazon Kindle Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

When Katie McCormick finds out that her sister is marrying her ex, she finally agrees to a setup for the big day. To her surprise, Jackson is a catch. But when wedding catastrophe ensues, will their sparks fizzle or ignite into flames?

AJ’s Review:

Sister of the Bride by Susan Mallery is smart, sexy, sassy, and full of wedding drama and family humor. I have never laughed so hard in my life as I was reading this fantastic short story.

Katie is intelligent, kind, caring, sexy, and a saint for putting up with her shallow, bridezilla sister, Courtney. Believe me when I say that Katie has the patience of Job because Courtney manages to push everyone’s buttons with her drama. Add to that Aunt Tilly who always gets her man, or someone else’s, and you have one spectacular comedy that will keep you laughing for days.

Jackson Kent may be considered a nerd, but the man is absolute gorgeous. I loved how he looked beyond Katie’s outer appearance and delved deeper to learn more about her as a person. He saw in Kate what all of her family members not only missed, but also criticized her about on a regular basis. When they say family can be cruel, loud and crazy, they definitely had Katie’s family in mind.

The sexual chemistry between Katie and Jackson sizzled from the moment they met. I always enjoy the “love at first sight” trope and Sister of the Bride was no exception. Ms. Mallery does a splendid job of allowing the reader to learn more about Katie and Jackson in such a short read. Their characters were well-developed and possessed an amount of depth that sometimes you don’t see in full length novels. I loved their honesty with one another, especially as their relationship blossomed and they continued to quickly fall head-over-heels in love.

The secondary characters were a hoot. They definitely helped bring this dynamic story to life with their theatrics and crazy antics. Aunt Tilly made me laugh until I cried as she began her hunt for a man. Courtney, as stated previously, was a complete bridezilla, which made you like Katie even more. Courtney and Alex were both selfish, as well as childish and simply needed to grow up. Janis, Katie’s mom, was simply amazing. Her character as the overwhelmed mother of the bride was on the money. Her quick wit, snappy comebacks, and assessment of each disaster during the wedding was hilarious.

Sister of the Bride is quirky, humorous, and full of wedding bliss. The characters are so full of life that they simply leaf off the page. I loved Katie and Jackson’s spunk, but more importantly, I loved the sensuality of their relationship as it blossomed throughout the book. The dialogue is fresh, witty, and believable. The setting is so vivid that it makes me want to visit Fools Gold. If you haven’t checked out Sister of the Bride by Susan Mallery, then what are you waiting for. Pick up your copy to day and enjoy.

Reaching the Edge by Jennifer Comeaux
Series: Edge Series, Book 3
Publisher: Astrea Press
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 12 pages

Amazon Kindle Barnes and Noble Nook

Summary:

Emily has waited over two years to give herself to Sergei. She couldn’t have asked for a more patient man. Now they’ve finally reached their wedding night, and after all Sergei’s patience and understanding, Emily wants to be everything for him. How will their first night together compare to their dreams?

This is a 3500-word short story that contains mature content not suitable for younger readers. Reaching the Edge is part of the EDGE series, but this story can be enjoyed as a standalone read.

AJ’s Review:

I love when authors provide readers with a quick update regarding their favorite characters and that’s exactly what Jennifer Comeaux does in Reaching the Edge.

Ms. Comeaux provides the reader with a sneak peek of Emily and Sergei’s wedding night. If you thought their love story was heartwarming, then you’re going to enjoy their wedding night. During Emily and Sergei’s courtship, the reader has always been given a glimpse of how sensual this charismatic couple is when they’re alone, and that intimacy comes full force in this short installment. In my humble opinion, Reaching the Edge was the perfect short story to follow-up Emily and Sergei’s emotional roller coaster engagement and wedding.

In just 12 pages, this tantalizing book packs quite a punch with this sexy couple who will steal your heart and make your body swoon as they finally consummate their relationship. Short, sexy, sensual and yes…sweet are the words that come to mind after reading Reaching the Edge In fact, you’ll definitely have an “aw” moment as the author and characters leave you with a smile on your face after witnessing the deep, unwavering love that Sergei and Emily have for one another.
